The Hiawassee, Georgia Mini Reunion was held October 17-19, 2008. The names and addresses of attendees appear at the end of this section. In attendance were 86 grads and 22 spouses for a grand total of 108.
Friday night everyone gathered after dinner for cake, coffee and conversation. Saturday we went to the Georgia Mountain Fair, shopping at the shops nearby, to Helen to walk around, driving around the mountains to see the leaves or to Blairsville to the Sourgham Festival. Saturday evening we all dressed up for dinner and dancing.
Winbert Lavender (class of 53) was the MC and, as usual, was the life of the party. Wanda Hudson Briscoe (class of 53) and Jane Harn Holland (class of 54) welcomed everyone to the mini-reunion and to Hiawassee. When we went around the room to introduce ourselves and tell a little bit about our families it was hilarious. We have a lot of clowns who attended MJHS and also we have grads who have lived interesting lives these past 55 years.
It was great to have such a big attendance by the ‘55 class. Twenty couples were there. We hope they will come back every year.
Sunday morning we all gathered for Brunch and to say good-bye for another year. Wanda introduced the committee who helped her and Jane put together the mini-reunion … Bob Sanchez (class of 53) and Carol Fox Hornbeck (class of 55) and we had a moment of silence to remember Tommy Potter (class of 53) who served on the committe prior to his death last month.
The 2009 Hiawassee mini-reunion dates will be posted in a couple of months. It will be in mid-October so keep that in mind.
